Ghost is a UK-based fashion label created by Tanya Sarne and Katherine Hamnett in 1985. Sarne has no training as a designer but previously worked as a model and had an intuitive sense about fashion and the way clothing should fit women's bodies. The company name is variously described as referring to the actual designers who would "ghost-write" the collection behind the scenes, and also to the company's prospects in the fashion business, described by many as a "ghost of a chance" at success. The company is known for its flow-y, feminine dresses that flattered all body types, as well as its unique use of the fabric viscose, a fabric made from wood or cotton fibers, which the Ghost house designed and pre-treated in a special way that rendered the fabric ethereal, breathable, wrinkle-free and with a luxurious crepe-like appearance. The company went on to be a multi-million pound success in the UK, with their own boutiques and sales through select retail outlets such as Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Liberty. The Ghost fashion line was a favorite with celebrities and real women everywhere who embraced its comfort, generous sizing and flattering cuts. Perfumes were a valued piece of the Ghost product offering, with the launch of the first scent, Ghost Perfume, in 1995. A series of Ghost fragrances for men and women have since been introduced, in collaboration with Procter & Gamble. Designer Ghost has 33 perfumes in our fragrance base. The earliest edition was created in 2000 and the newest is from 2024. Ghost fragrances were made in collaboration with perfumers Michel Almairac, Pierre Bourdon, Jean-Louis Grauby and Pierre-Constantin Guéros.
